Community Supported Filmmaking, or how you can help bring this film to the screen.

You’ve probably heard of Community Supported Agriculture, where you pay a “subscription” to the farm at the beginning of the season to help the farmer get started and then receive a share of the produce as the season progresses.

This allows people to connect directly to their food, the farms and farm families while connecting the farmers directly to their customers, eliminating bankers, brokers and speculators in the middle. Food becomes a mutually beneficial relationship.

A similar model is being used by many people to fund independent documentaries. Call it community supported filmmaking or “audience funding.”  Since I don’t have any large corporate or network backing for this important story, I’m relying on you, my film’s future audience, to become a network of mini-Executive Producers, one dollar or one thousand dollars at a time.

Want to make this one good year for independent documentary? Consider making a donation to this project. Here’s what you get:

*$1-$19               Good karma, a personal thank-you.

*$20-$99             The above plus a DVD of the film when it is released.

*$100-$499         Above plus “Thank You” in the credits.

*$500-$1999       Good karma, DVD and “Special Thanks” in the credits.

*$2000+              The above plus your website link in the credits and on this site.

We’re also looking for an executive producer, sponsors whose business mission is consistent with the values of the Southern Humboldt community and, possibly, investors. We’ll also soon have a Kickstarter.com fundraising campaign going. If you’re more comfortable making a contribution that way, sign up for our email list and we’ll be sending out an announcement when our Kickstarter is active.

If anyone is interested in holding fundraising house parties for the project, contact us!

If you need your donation to be tax-deductible, this will soon be possible. We’re working on getting fiscal sponsorship with a 501(c)3 organization now. Please contact us, since having a pending large donation can help speed the paperwork process.

For now, make checks to:
